TO RESCUE ANY WILLING SOUL: a poem by ed

This poem is dedicated to
William Howard Franklin and Lester J. Cooper

If you walk past a Baobab tree
     on an African path
          without your heart beating faster
or pass a Weeping Willow
without joy swelling up within you
then your soul is almost dead.

The cause of your shattered soul
is not as much an issue
as what you plan to do
               to mend your inner mind.

There is a universal tree
that can heal the most broken soul
and put back meaning
in any inner mind.
It is the tree
     that Jesus hung on
          long ago
to rescue any willing soul.
